Samsung TV Error 001: How to Fix Smart Hub Setup

Error 001 (also shown as Error_exe_001 or 0-1) is a Smart Hub error: your Samsung TV can't load the country-specific app list or terms because the region isn't set correctly or the TV has no working internet. It's a setup issue, not a broken panel.

Quick answer

Error 001 is a Smart Hub region/setup fault. First make sure the TV actually has internet, then reset Smart Hub so it re-downloads your country's app list and terms.

  1. 1.Confirm the TV is online: Settings → General → Network → Network Status (it should reach the internet, not just the router).
  2. 2.Reset Smart Hub: Settings → Support → Device Care → Self Diagnosis → Reset Smart Hub (PIN default 0000).

What it means

Error 001 (also written Error_exe_001 or 0-1) appears when you open Smart Hub or the built-in web browser and the TV can't download the app list and terms & conditions for your country. Smart Hub needs to know your region and reach Samsung's servers to load those — when either the country setting or the internet connection is missing, it stops with 001.

It's a setup and network problem, not a hardware failure — the panel, backlight and tuner are fine, so nothing needs repairing or replacing.

Common causes

  • Wrong or missing region/country. If the TV's country wasn't set — or was set incorrectly — during initial setup, Smart Hub has no country-specific app list to load and stops with 001.
  • No working internet connection. Smart Hub has to download the terms & conditions and app list live. If the TV isn't actually online, it can't fetch them and throws 001.
  • Corrupted Smart Hub data. Cached Smart Hub data can fall out of sync or become corrupted, so the app list won't rebuild until Smart Hub is reset.
  • Outdated TV firmware. An old Tizen build can mishandle the Smart Hub handshake and surface it as error 001.

Before you start

  • Open Settings → General → Network → Network Status and confirm the TV reaches the internet, not just the router.
  • Test another device on the same Wi-Fi — if it also has no internet, fix the router or ISP first, not the TV.
  • Note whether the error started right after initial setup, a country change or a firmware update.

Fixes, from safest to last resort

1

Power cycle the TV

  1. 1Unplug the TV from the wall (not just the remote power-off).
  2. 2With it unplugged, press and hold the TV's power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
  3. 3Wait a full 60 seconds, plug it back in, turn it on and open Smart Hub again.

This clears Smart Hub's temporary memory and re-initialises the connection — the quickest fix for a one-off 001.

2

Confirm and refresh the internet connection

  1. 1Go to Settings → General → Network → Open Network Settings and reconnect to your Wi-Fi, re-entering the password.
  2. 2Check Settings → General → Network → Network Status — it should confirm access to the internet, not only to the router.
  3. 3If it connects but Smart Hub still fails, set the DNS manually: Settings → General → Network → Network Status → IP Settings → DNS Setting → Enter manually, then enter 8.8.8.8.

Smart Hub can't load your country's app list without real internet access, so a working, DNS-resolving connection is a must before the steps below.

8.8.8.8
3

Reset Smart Hub

  1. 1Open Settings → Support → Device Care → Self Diagnosis → Reset Smart Hub (on 2016–2019 models: Settings → Support → Self Diagnosis → Reset Smart Hub).
  2. 2Enter your PIN (default 0000).
  3. 3Wait for the reset to finish, then reopen Smart Hub so it re-downloads the terms & conditions and your country's app list.

This rebuilds Smart Hub without touching your picture settings or network config, and it's the step that resolves 001 most often once the TV is online. You may need to sign in to your apps again.

4

Update the TV firmware

  1. 1Go to Settings → Support → Software Update → Update Now.
  2. 2If Smart Hub can't reach the internet, download the firmware for your exact model from Samsung's site to a USB drive and update from USB.
  3. 3After updating, restart the TV and open Smart Hub again.

An outdated Tizen build can mishandle the Smart Hub handshake; updating often clears a persistent 001.

5

Factory reset and set the correct country (last resort)

  1. 1Only if every step above failed and other devices confirm the internet works.
  2. 2Go to Settings → General (or General & Privacy) → Reset and enter your PIN (default 0000).
  3. 3During the setup wizard that follows, choose the correct Country/Region for your location so Smart Hub loads the right app list and terms.

⚠ A factory reset erases all apps, logins, picture settings and preferences. Try everything else first — but it is also the reliable way to correct a wrong region that can't be changed from the normal menus.

If a menu doesn't match your TV

  • Menu wording varies by year: 'Reset Smart Hub' lives under Settings → Support → Device Care → Self Diagnosis on newer Tizen sets, but under Settings → Support → Self Diagnosis on 2016–2019 models.
  • On many models the Country/Region can only be changed by a factory reset — don't force the hidden service menu to change it unless Samsung support guides you, as wrong values there can disable features.

When to contact support

Contact Samsung support if 001 persists after a Smart Hub reset, firmware update and factory reset, or if the correct region simply won't stick:

  • Have your model number ready (Settings → Support → About This TV).
  • Tell them the exact code shown (001, Error_exe_001 or 0-1) and that it appears when opening Smart Hub or the browser.
  • Mention the steps you already tried, especially the Smart Hub reset and the Country/Region setting.

Frequently asked questions

Does error 001 mean my Samsung TV is broken?+

No. It's a Smart Hub setup/network error — the TV can't load your country's app list or terms & conditions. The panel is fine; it's fixed by checking the internet, setting the right region and resetting Smart Hub.

Will resetting Smart Hub delete my apps and settings?+

Resetting Smart Hub signs you out and clears downloaded apps' data, so you'll re-download and sign in to your apps again — but it leaves your picture settings and network configuration intact. Only a full factory reset wipes everything.

Why does the region/country matter for error 001?+

Samsung serves a different app list and terms & conditions per country. If the TV's region is wrong or unset, Smart Hub has nothing valid to load for your location and stops with 001 — setting the correct country fixes it.
