Apple TV+ streams through the Apple TV app, which is built into most major smart TVs and streaming devices — no Apple hardware required. When it misbehaves on a TV, the fix is usually a device restart, an app reset or a fresh sign-in rather than anything on Apple's side.

Disney+ reports problems with short numeric codes, and two dominate on TVs: error 83 ("Something went wrong" — a device compatibility, connection, or account issue) and error 42 (trouble connecting to the internet). Both usually respond to a restart, an app update, or a network check rather than anything on Disney's side.

HBO Max is Warner Bros. Discovery's streaming service — it was called Max from 2023 until the 2025 rebrand back to HBO Max. On smart TVs, most HBO Max problems trace back to an outdated app, a sign-in or device-limit issue, or the network — not the TV hardware.

Hulu is Disney's US streaming service for on-demand shows and live TV. On smart TVs, the most common complaints are playback errors such as P-DEV320 and stream-limit messages — both usually clear with an app update, a restart or by stopping a stream on another device.

Netflix runs on virtually every smart TV platform, and its error codes follow a pattern: NW codes point to network trouble, UI codes usually mean app data on the device needs a refresh, and tvq codes relate to playback. Most problems clear with a restart, a sign-out and sign-in, or a router reboot — no account changes needed.

Paramount+ combines CBS shows, live sports and Paramount originals in one app. Its smart TV apps are best known for crash-on-open and buffering complaints, and Paramount's own troubleshooting sequence — close, restart, update, reinstall — is the way to work through them.

Plex works differently from other streaming apps: the TV app is a client that plays media from your own Plex Media Server, alongside Plex's free ad-supported streaming. That is why most Plex problems on TVs are connection issues between the app and the server rather than faults in the app itself.

Prime Video is Amazon's streaming app, and on TVs you sign in with a short code entered at amazon.com/code. Most failures on a TV come down to an outdated app, cached data, or the network — and for 4K or HDR titles, playback also depends on HDCP-compatible HDMI hardware when you use an external player.

The YouTube app comes preinstalled on most smart TVs and streaming devices. When it misbehaves, the cause is almost always local — an outdated app or TV firmware, corrupted app cache, or a weak network connection — rather than your Google account. A restart plus an app update fixes the majority of cases.
