LG TV Error Code 137: How to Fix the Wi-Fi Connection Error

Error 137 appears when an LG Smart TV tries to join a wireless network and can't get online. LG links it to the connection itself: a wrong password, the TV or router settings, outdated firmware, or work on the provider's or LG's servers.

Quick answer

LG TV error 137 means the TV couldn't connect to your wireless network and get online. LG's first checks are quick: confirm you typed the Wi-Fi password correctly, then restart the TV and the router together. If the error returns, delete the saved network from the TV and connect to it again.

  1. 1.Check the Wi-Fi password, then unplug the TV and the router from power. Leave the router unplugged for at least 20 seconds before plugging both back in.
  2. 2.Still seeing 137? Delete the network from the TV's memory, select it again and re-enter the password.

What it means

LG's own error code list describes 137 as a common LG TV error that appears when the TV tries to connect to a wireless network, and LG's dedicated article ties it to a problem connecting to the internet. It can show up while you set up Wi-Fi, or come back some time after the TV has already accepted the password.

LG says the error can be fixed without calling a technician. Every fix it lists targets the connection: the password, the network saved on the TV, the DNS address, the router's settings and the TV firmware. The one case you can't fix at home is maintenance at your internet provider or on LG's Smart TV servers, where you have to wait.

Error 137 is not the same as error 106, which LG ties to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. If 106 is the code on your screen, see our guide on LG TV error 106.

Common causes

  • Wrong Wi-Fi password. A mistyped password is the first thing LG tells you to check for error 137. The TV may also ask for the password again after a restart, which is another chance to mistype it.
  • Connection settings between the TV and the router. The TV sees the network and accepts the password, but the error comes back later. LG points to the TV's DNS address, the router's DHCP server and the router's MAC address filter.
  • Outdated TV firmware. LG lists old firmware as a cause and recommends updating it, from a USB drive if the TV can't get online.
  • A fault at your internet provider. A technical failure on the provider's side blocks the connection no matter what you change on the TV.
  • Maintenance on LG's Smart TV servers. LG names scheduled work on its Smart TV servers as another cause. It clears when the work ends.
  • No built-in Wi-Fi on the TV. Most newer LG models have Wi-Fi built in, but some don't. Models marked "Ready" can only connect wirelessly through LG's external adapter.

Before you start

  • Check whether your phone or laptop gets online on the same Wi-Fi. If other devices connect fine, LG's advice is to look at the TV's connection settings (DNS). If nothing connects, suspect the router or your provider first.
  • Make sure your TV actually has Wi-Fi: open Settings → Network and look for a Wi-Fi entry. If there is one, the TV has a built-in receiver.
  • Find the correct password before you start. It's usually printed on the back of the router or in your contract with the internet provider.

Fixes, from safest to last resort

1

Check the password and restart the TV and router together

  1. 1Turn off the TV and unplug it from the power socket, not just standby with the remote.
  2. 2Unplug the router at the same time and leave it off for at least 20 seconds so it can end its previous session.
  3. 3Plug the router back in, then the TV, and connect to your Wi-Fi again.
  4. 4If the TV asks for the Wi-Fi password, type it carefully and check it for mistakes before confirming.

LG recommends trying this restart before any other fix for error 137.

2

Delete the saved network and connect again

  1. 1Press the gear button on the remote to open the settings, then go to Network → Wi-Fi Connection.
  2. 2Remove your saved network from the TV's memory.
  3. 3Select the network again from the list and enter the password.

This is the next step LG lists when the password is right and a restart didn't help. Have the Wi-Fi password at hand, because the TV will ask for it.

3

Set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 manually

  1. 1Use this when other devices get online but the TV still shows 137, or when it accepts the password and the error returns later.
  2. 2Go to Settings → Network → Wi-Fi Connection → Advanced Settings and select Edit.
  3. 3Untick Automatic, type 8.8.8.8 in the DNS field and select Connect.

8.8.8.8 is Google's public DNS. In its error code list LG also gives 8.8.4.4 as an alternative address.

Check DHCP and MAC filtering on the router

  1. 1Open your router's admin panel and find the DHCP section. Make sure the DHCP server is on (often a ticked "Enable DHCP Server" box); it hands out IP addresses to your devices automatically.
  2. 2If DHCP is on but the TV still gets no address, assign the TV an IP address manually. The admin panel shows which local addresses are available.
  3. 3In the router's security section, check that MAC address filtering is off, or add the TV's MAC address to the allowed list so the router doesn't block it.
  4. 4To find the TV's MAC address, go to Settings → Support → Product information on the TV.

Router menus differ between makers, so the exact names of these options may not match. Changing them affects only the router's settings, not the TV.

5

Update the TV firmware from a USB drive

  1. 1When the TV is online, firmware updates install automatically. If it can't connect, use a USB flash drive and a computer.
  2. 2On the computer, open LG's official website, go to Support and then the drivers, firmware and software section.
  3. 3Search for your TV model and download the latest firmware archive from the software update section.
  4. 4Unpack the archive onto the USB drive, plug the drive into the TV's USB port and confirm the update prompt.
  5. 5Wait a few minutes while it installs. The TV restarts by itself when the update is done.

⚠ Don't turn off or unplug the TV while the firmware is installing. LG's instructions say to leave it on until the update finishes.

If a menu doesn't match your TV

  • No Wi-Fi entry under Settings → Network? LG says that means the model has no built-in Wi-Fi receiver. Check the model's specifications on LG's website: "-" next to Wi-Fi means no built-in adapter, a dot or "Yes" means it's built in, and "Ready" means it connects through LG's external adapter.
  • Menu labels vary between models and menu languages. If you can't find Advanced Settings, open the Wi-Fi connection screen and look for an edit or advanced option for your network.
  • Can't find the settings menu? The gear button on the LG remote opens it.
  • If the TV keeps dropping Wi-Fi without showing a code, see our guide on an LG TV that keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi.

When to contact support

If error 137 comes from maintenance at your internet provider or on LG's Smart TV servers, nothing you change on the TV will clear it. LG suggests contacting technical support to ask when the work will end, and an LG service center if you can't solve the problem yourself:

  • If none of your devices can get online, call your internet provider and ask about a fault or maintenance on their side.
  • If only the TV fails after the password check, restart, new connection, DNS change and firmware update, contact LG support or an LG service center.
  • Have your TV model number ready and the TV's MAC address from Settings → Support → Product information.
  • Tell them which of the steps above you already tried.

Frequently asked questions

What does LG TV error code 137 mean?+

It means the TV couldn't connect to your wireless network and reach the internet. LG lists a wrong password, the TV or router connection settings, outdated firmware, a provider fault and maintenance on LG's Smart TV servers as causes.

Why does my LG TV show error 137 when connecting to the internet?+

Start with the password: LG tells you to check it first. If it's correct, restart the TV and the router together, then delete the saved network and connect again. If the TV accepts the password and the error comes back later, set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and check the router's DHCP and MAC filter settings.

LG TV error code 137 reset: do I need to factory reset the TV?+

LG's pages on error 137 don't list a factory reset. The reset they recommend is a restart: unplug the TV and the router together, with the router off for at least 20 seconds. After that comes deleting the saved network, the DNS change, the router checks and a firmware update.

My LG TV accepts the Wi-Fi password but error 137 keeps coming back. What now?+

LG describes exactly this case. If other devices get online, set the TV's DNS to 8.8.8.8 under Settings → Network → Wi-Fi Connection → Advanced Settings. If that doesn't help, check that the router's DHCP server is on and that MAC filtering isn't blocking the TV.

Is LG error 137 the same as error 106?+

No. LG ties error 106 to the 5 GHz band and fixes it by switching the router to 2.4 GHz. Error 137 is about connecting to the wireless network itself, starting with the password. See our guide on LG TV error 106 if that's your code.

Does error 137 mean my LG TV is broken?+

LG says the error can be fixed without a technician, and all the causes it lists are on the connection side. The exception is a model without built-in Wi-Fi: check its specifications on LG's website, and if it says "Ready" you need LG's external adapter.

Can error 137 be caused by LG or my internet provider?+

Yes. LG names a technical failure at the provider and maintenance on its Smart TV servers as causes. In that case nothing on your side will fix it; you can contact technical support to ask when the work will finish.
