LG TV Error Code 201: What It Means and How to Fix It

Error 201 on an LG TV comes with a message that there is no signal. LG's official list of TV error codes groups it with error 501 and gives two fixes when the network does have a signal: switch from the 5 GHz band to 2.4 GHz, or reset the router's settings.

Quick answer

LG TV error 201 comes with a message that there is no signal. If your Wi-Fi does have a signal, LG's fix is to move the connection from the 5 GHz band to 2.4 GHz. If that doesn't clear it, the other option LG gives is resetting the router's settings.

  1. 1.Check that your phone or laptop is online on the same Wi-Fi, so you know the network really has a signal.
  2. 2.Change the router's Wi-Fi frequency from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz, then reconnect the TV under Settings → Network → Wi-Fi Connection.

What it means

Error 201 on an LG TV comes with a message saying there is no signal. LG's official list of TV error codes puts it together with error 501: both show that message and LG gives them the same fix.

LG's advice covers the case where the message is wrong and your network does have a signal. Then the fix is to switch from the 5 GHz frequency to 2.4 GHz. Resetting the router's settings is the other option LG lists.

Both fixes are on the Wi-Fi band and the router, not inside the TV. If the TV can't reach the router at all or shows a different network code, see our guides to LG error 106 and LG error 137.

Common causes

  • The TV is connected on the 5 GHz band. When the network does have a signal, LG's fix for 201 is switching from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz, which points to the band the TV uses.
  • Router settings. LG lists resetting the router's settings as another way to clear errors 201 and 501.
  • No signal on the network. The error comes with a no-signal message. Check whether that is true before changing anything: if no device in your home can get online, the problem is the network itself.

Before you start

  • Check whether your phone or laptop is online on the same Wi-Fi. LG's fixes for 201 apply when the network does have a signal.
  • Note whether the TV shows 201 or 501. LG treats both codes the same way.
  • If the TV shows a different code, such as 106 or 137, follow the guide for that code instead.

Fixes, from safest to last resort

1

Switch the Wi-Fi from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz

  1. 1Open your router's settings and change the Wi-Fi frequency from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz. LG gives the same router change for error 106 in its error-code list.
  2. 2On the TV, press the gear button on the remote to open the settings menu.
  3. 3Go to Network → Wi-Fi Connection and reconnect the TV to your network.
  4. 4Check whether error 201 is gone.

This changes only the Wi-Fi band. Your TV's apps and accounts are not touched.

2

Reset the router's settings

  1. 1Use this only if switching to 2.4 GHz did not clear error 201.
  2. 2Reset the router's settings using the reset option described in your router's manual or by your internet provider. The procedure differs between router models.
  3. 3Set up your Wi-Fi again, then reconnect the TV under Settings → Network → Wi-Fi Connection.

⚠ Resetting the router's settings erases its configuration, including your Wi-Fi name and password and any changes you made. Every device in your home has to reconnect afterwards.

If a menu doesn't match your TV

  • Router menus differ between models. Check your router's manual or your internet provider's instructions to find where the Wi-Fi frequency is set.
  • If you can't find the TV's network menu, press the gear button on the LG remote to open the settings menu, then choose Network and Wi-Fi Connection.
  • If the TV can't get online at all and shows a different code, our LG error 106 guide covers the general network fixes LG gives.

When to contact support

LG's error-code list gives two fixes for 201: switching to 2.4 GHz and resetting the router's settings. If neither clears the error, contact LG support, or your internet provider if no device in your home can get online:

  • Have your TV's model number ready.
  • Tell them whether the TV shows 201 or 501 and which steps you already tried: the 2.4 GHz switch and the router settings reset.
  • Mention whether other devices are online on the same Wi-Fi.

Frequently asked questions

lg tv error code 201 how to fix+

First check that other devices are online on the same Wi-Fi. If the network has a signal, LG's fix is to switch from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz and reconnect the TV under Settings → Network → Wi-Fi Connection. If the error stays, LG's other option is resetting the router's settings.

What does error code 201 mean on an LG smart TV?+

LG TV error code 201 reset: which reset does LG mean?+

The reset LG mentions for 201 is resetting the router's settings, not the TV. LG's error-code list doesn't mention a TV factory reset for this code. Resetting the router erases its Wi-Fi name and password, so try the 2.4 GHz switch first.

What is the difference between LG error 201 and 501?+

LG lists them together. Both come with a no-signal message, and the fixes are the same: switch from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz if the network has a signal, or reset the router's settings.

Is LG OLED TV error code 201 different from other LG models?+

LG's error-code list covers LG TVs in general and doesn't give a separate fix for OLED models. The same steps apply: 2.4 GHz first, then a router settings reset.

LG says error 200 usually appears when you try to use voice search on the remote. Disconnect the TV from the internet for 5 minutes, then reconnect it. If the error is still there, update the TV's software.

Does error 201 mean my LG TV is broken?+

LG doesn't describe it that way. Both fixes LG gives for 201 are on the Wi-Fi band and the router, and its list doesn't mention a fault in the TV for this code.
