Sony TV Error 2200: What It Means and How to Fix It

Error 2200 on a Sony BRAVIA Smart TV (non-Android TV, non-Google TV) means the TV cannot connect to the internet or the connection is unstable. Sony's fix is on the network side: make the connection stable and restart your network device. Sony does not list it as a hardware fault.

Quick answer

Sony error 2200 means your BRAVIA TV cannot connect to the internet or the connection is unstable, so an internet video service won't open or cuts out while you watch. Sony's fix is on the network side: make sure your internet connection is stable, restart your router or other network device, then open the content again.

  1. 1.Unplug your Wi-Fi router, plug it back in and wait until it is back online.
  2. 2.Open the internet video service on the TV again.

What it means

Sony shows error 2200 when the TV cannot connect to the internet or the internet communication is unstable. Sony gives two typical situations: you cannot open an internet video service at all, or a service you are watching suddenly disappears.

The code belongs to Sony's list of internet error codes for BRAVIA Smart TVs that are not Android TV or Google TV. Sony's answer for 2200 is about the connection (a stable internet link and a restart of your network device), not about repairing the TV. Sony uses a different code, 4012, for a device failure that may need repair.

Other codes on the same Sony list: 1002 (the TV is not connected to the internet), 1106 (error when viewing internet videos or selecting content), 1107, 2123, 3218 and 7003 (network setup issue or unstable internet connection), 4012 (device failure), 5010 (internet processing error while a program runs), 7007 (connection lost or low speed during a software update), 7016 (an issue with your internet provider's environment during a software update) and 1-30, 50-200 and 300 (a communication issue with the server).

Common causes

  • The TV cannot reach the internet. The internet connection is down or not getting through, so internet video services on the TV won't open. This is the first situation Sony describes for 2200.
  • Unstable internet connection. The connection works but drops, so a video service you are watching suddenly disappears. Sony lists unstable internet communication as the other trigger for 2200.

Before you start

  • Note when 2200 appears: when you open an internet video service, or in the middle of playback. Sony describes both situations for this code.
  • Check which kind of BRAVIA you have. Sony's error table covers BRAVIA Smart TVs that are not Android TV or Google TV.
  • Make sure your internet connection itself is up and stable before changing anything on the TV. That is Sony's first instruction for 2200.

Fixes, from safest to last resort

1

Restart your network device and try again

  1. 1Unplug your Wi-Fi router (or other network device) from power.
  2. 2Plug it back in and wait until it is back online.
  3. 3On the TV, open the internet video service again.

Restarting the network device and retrying is the fix Sony lists for 2200. Unplugging the Wi-Fi router and plugging it back in is the example of a network restart Sony gives for the related codes 1107, 2123, 3218 and 7003.

2

Run the TV's connection check

  1. 1Press the HOME button on the remote.
  2. 2Select Settings → System Settings → Set-up → Network → Network Set-up.
  3. 3Select View Network setting and status → Check Connection, then select Yes.
  4. 4If any result says Failed, check the network connection settings (next fix). If every result is OK, update the TV software (the fix after that).

Sony gives this diagnostic and this order (settings if anything fails, software update if everything is OK) for the related internet errors 1106 and 5010 on the same support page.

3

Check the TV's network connection settings

  1. 1Press the HOME button on the remote.
  2. 2Select Settings → System Settings → Set up → Network → Network set-up → Set up network connection.
  3. 3Wireless connection: follow the on-screen instructions to check the network connection setting.
  4. 4Wired connection: select Expert → Wired Set-up, then follow the on-screen instructions.

This is the path Sony gives for checking the network connection setting (its fix for error 1002, TV not connected to the network).

4

Update the TV's system software

  1. 1Press the HOME button on the remote.
  2. 2Select Settings → Customer Support → Software Update.
  3. 3Select USB or Network and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. 4Try the internet video service again after the update.

Sony recommends a software update for the related internet errors on the same list (1002, 1106, 1107/2123/3218/7003 and the server-side codes). Its 2200 entry itself only asks for a stable connection and a network restart, so try this after those. If the connection drops or is slow during a network update, Sony's advice (errors 7007 and 7016) is to update using USB.

If a menu doesn't match your TV

  • If your BRAVIA runs Android TV or Google TV, these menu paths and this error list are not the ones Sony gives for your model: Sony's table covers BRAVIA Smart TVs that are not Android TV or Google TV.
  • Check Connection sits inside Settings → System Settings → Set-up → Network → Network Set-up, under View Network setting and status.
  • If the update over the network fails, go back to Settings → Customer Support → Software Update and choose USB instead of Network.

When to contact support

Contact Sony support if 2200 keeps coming back once your internet connection is stable and the network device has been restarted, or if the TV ever shows error 4012, which Sony lists as a device failure that may need repair. Sony's support site has a Contact support section and a Repair, Warranty & Spare Parts section.

  • Have your TV's model number ready (see our guide on finding your TV model number).
  • Say when 2200 appears: when opening an internet video service, or during playback.
  • Share the result of Check Connection and the steps you already tried (network restart, connection settings, software update).

Frequently asked questions

What does error 2200 mean on a Sony TV?+

It means the TV cannot connect to the internet or the internet communication is unstable. Sony says it shows up when you cannot open an internet video service, or when a service you are watching suddenly disappears.

Does Sony TV error 2200 mean my TV is broken?+

Sony describes 2200 as an internet connection problem, and its fix is to make the internet connection stable and restart your network device. Sony uses a separate code, 4012, for a device failure that may need repair.

Why does my Sony TV keep disconnecting from Wi-Fi?+

If the drops come with error 2200, Sony's explanation is an unstable internet connection. Restart your router, run Check Connection (Settings → System Settings → Set-up → Network → Network Set-up → View Network setting and status) and check the connection settings. For the related codes 1107, 2123, 3218 and 7003, Sony also mentions a drop in line speed, especially on a wireless LAN; the setup menu has a wired option under Expert → Wired Set-up.

Sony TV not connecting to Wi-Fi: is it error 2200 or 1002?+

Sony uses 1002 when the TV is not connected to the network at all, and 2200 when it cannot reach the internet or the connection is unstable. For 1002, Sony's first step is to check the network connection setting; for 2200, it is a stable connection and a restart of your network device.

Sony smart TV apps not loading: is that error 2200?+

It can be. Sony lists not being able to open internet video services as one of the situations for 2200. If the TV shows a different code, check Sony's list: 1106 covers errors when viewing internet videos or selecting content, and 1-30, 50-200 and 300 point to the server side, where Sony's advice is to retry after a brief interval.

Do I need a factory reset to fix Sony error 2200?+

Sony's 2200 entry does not include a factory reset. On the same page Sony suggests one only for error 5010, after checking the connection, updating the software and refreshing internet content.

Does this error list apply to Sony Google TV or Android TV models?+

No. Sony titles this table as error codes on BRAVIA Smart TVs that are non-Android TV and non-Google TV, so the codes and menu paths here are for those models.
