webOS (LG)

webOS is LG's smart TV operating system, recognizable by its horizontal app launcher and the point-and-click Magic Remote. It runs on every LG smart TV (OLED, QNED, NanoCell and UHD models), and LG also licenses it to other TV makers under the webOS Hub name. The usual trouble spots are Wi-Fi that keeps dropping, Magic Remote pairing, and apps that misbehave after a firmware update.

Frequently asked questions

How do I re-pair the LG Magic Remote?+

Hold the Home and Back buttons together for about five seconds to unregister the remote, then point it at the TV and press the scroll wheel (OK button) to register it again. If nothing happens, replace the batteries first.

How do I update webOS on an LG TV?+

On recent models, go to Settings → All Settings → Support → Software Update and select Check for Updates. On older webOS 3.x–4.x TVs the option lives under General → About This TV. Turning on Auto Update keeps the TV current on its own. Do not turn the TV off while an update is installing.
